What is Sereal+?
Sereal+ — spelled "Sereal Plus" in search and listed as Sereal+ Short Drama, TV Series (formerly Sereal+ Stream Short Dramas) — is a vertical short drama app that launched on the App Store on 7 December 2023 and on Google Play in February 2024. Episodes run about a minute, series run about 70 episodes, and the pitch on the store page is explicit: "Hottest K-Dramas, J-Dramas and South Asian Dramas on the go." Where most apps in this ranking export Chinese productions, Sereal+ was built to aggregate short-form drama from Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Spanish-speaking markets and South Asia and to sit them next to English-language originals.
By early 2025 it was a genuine top-ten app in the category — Insightrackr ranked it sixth worldwide by downloads in December 2024 after a 29% monthly jump — with 10 million-plus installs on Google Play and an AI recommendation engine the company called "Short Drama Recommender 2.0". It has since slipped out of the monthly top-15 lists, and the reasons are the subject of the status section below.
Who is behind Sereal+?
The App Store seller is COL WEB PTE. LTD., a Singapore exempt private company; the Google Play developer page gives COL Media Corp at 611 N Brand Blvd, Glendale, California. Both are arms of COL Group Co., Ltd. (中文在线), the Shenzhen-listed digital publisher that operates Sereal+, FlareFlow and UniReel and holds 49% of Crazy Maple Studio, the maker of ReelShort. The terms of service are dated 11 October 2023, governed by Singapore law, and state that all fees are non-refundable.
The two-country developer identity is normal for Chinese-backed apps but worth knowing when you contact support: the Play listing shows a Chinese mobile number as the developer phone, and the support email is contact@serealplus.com.
Catalog and genres
Sereal+ does not publish a catalog size. What it publishes is a positioning: Korean and Japanese romance and revenge, Indonesian and Spanish-language series, South Asian dramas, dubbed Chinese imports (Back to 1998, Godlike Son in Law, The Palace of the Dragon King), and a slate of English originals made with COL's production arm and, according to the company, scripts assisted by its XiaoYao language model. Genres on the shelf: romance, revenge, thriller, comedy, fantasy and "Hollywood stories".
Where it differs from the rest of the ranking
Two apps in our top 20 court Korean and Japanese viewers — TopShort and Sereal+ — and Sereal+ goes further into South-East and South Asia. If your taste runs to K-drama pacing rather than Chinese "flash marriage" plots, this is the shelf to browse first. The trade-off is depth: the company advertises "new premieres each month", and 2025 reviews complain that new original episodes dried up.

Languages and availability
The iOS app lists English as its only interface language, but content carries subtitles across the languages of its source markets and several titles are dubbed into English — reviewers are hard on the dub quality. The app is a universal iOS build (iPhone, iPad, Apple silicon Macs, Vision Pro) and runs on Android 5.0 and later. A web player exists at sereal.com, though it returned server errors on one of our visits, and the support site is serealplus.com. No TV app.
Availability is broad — the App Store page offers dozens of storefronts and we found no documented region locks — and AppBrain's charts show it still grossing in Japan's Entertainment category in 2026.

Compared with the rest of the ranking, the $12.99 weekly entry is cheaper than NetShort or FlareFlow ($19.99) but roughly double DramaBox's. The monthly plan at $24.99 is actually the better value here — unusual for the category, where weekly plans are often the only option — and the coin ladder is one of the clearest, with a fixed dollar-per-coin rate. Reviewers still describe the experience as "about fifty cents a minute" when unlocking episode by episode.
How can you watch Sereal+ for free?

- Ad unlocks — up to five episodes a day by watching ads (an earlier 2024 version allowed ten).
- Task system — a gamified task list added in April 2025 pays coins, with an optional ad to double the reward.
- Promotions — "unlock all for 7 days" passes at around $19.99 appear in-app, and bonus-coin bundles (e.g. 2,000 + 900) are common.
The daily ad cap is lower than NetShort's and the free episode count is lower than FlareFlow's, so Sereal+ is a sampling app on the free tier rather than a binge one.

A 1.2-star gap between Apple and Google is the widest of any app we have added this year. The Google Play complaints are specific: rewarded ads that fail to play, VIP purchased but not applied, unlocks lost after an update, unresponsive support, poor English dubbing and "adult" content surfacing on the home feed. App Store reviewers are kinder about the acting and the K-drama selection.
The update freeze — what it means for you
This is the finding that most shaped our score. Both store listings show their last update in late July 2025 — thirteen months before this review. In the same period, industry coverage (Real Reel, October 2025) reported that Sereal+ "pulled back on user acquisition" from late July 2025, Insightrackr's monthly top-15 lists stopped including it, and Caixin's August 2025 reporting on COL Group described widening losses from overseas short drama spending. The app still works, still sells coins and still ranks in some regional charts, but a service that has not shipped a build in a year is a service to use on short plans only.
Practical advice: buy the $12.99 week or a coin pack, not the monthly plan; keep receipts, because the terms say no refunds; and check the "new" shelf before you pay to make sure the titles you want are complete.

Inside the COL family, FlareFlow is clearly where the investment went: it is updated weekly and its originals are newer. Sereal+ keeps the better Asian selection and the cheaper weekly plan. Against TopShort, the other K/J-leaning app, Sereal+ has more South-East Asian and English content while TopShort is the more actively maintained app.

How do I cancel Sereal+?
Cancel in the App Store or Google Play Subscriptions settings at least 24 hours before renewal. Uninstalling does not cancel, and the terms state that payments are non-refundable.
Is Sereal+ better than FlareFlow?
FlareFlow is the more actively developed COL Group app with newer English originals and a TV app; Sereal+ has more Korean, Japanese and South-East Asian content and a cheaper weekly plan. Choose by catalog; FlareFlow is the safer long-term bet.

Final verdict
Sereal+ earns its spot for doing something the leaders do not: a real Korean, Japanese and South-East Asian shelf, backed by decent English originals and a pricing ladder that includes a genuine monthly plan. It scores 8.1 because the Android experience is rated poorly, per-episode coin costs are still high, and the app has not been updated in over a year — a signal that its owner has moved its attention to FlareFlow. Use it for the catalog, pay by the week, and do not commit to more than you can watch this month.
