The 22 best short drama apps of 2026 — in detail

Short dramas are vertical mini-series filmed for your phone: 1–2 minute episodes, a cliffhanger every 60 seconds, and full seasons of 40–100 episodes you can finish in an evening. Every app below is free to download on Android and iOS, but they differ a lot in how many free episodes you get, what a subscription costs and what kind of stories they do best. Here is what we found after testing each one.

Where the category stands. Short drama is no longer a niche. Sensor Tower counted more than 850 million downloads in Q1 2026, up 140% year on year, and roughly $750 million of in-app revenue in the same quarter, up 20%. Growth has moved to mobile-first markets: South-East Asia took 32% of downloads, Latin America 23% and India 22% — together more than three quarters of the total. The habit is sticking too. Average time in a short drama app reached 25 minutes a day globally by April 2026, 85% more than in January 2025, against about 35 minutes for traditional streaming services, which have stayed flat. In South-East Asia short drama viewing is already close to 40 minutes a day. For revenue the leaders are still DramaBox and ReelShort, at close to $140 million each in Q1 2026.

Ranking updated 18 October 2026. We re-checked every store listing on both platforms the same day. One service moved: Veloria drops from 11th to 21st and from 8.5 to 5.8 after its ratings collapsed to 1.7★ on the App Store and 2.5★ on Google Play, with reviewers reporting 560 coins per episode. Every other position is unchanged — we move apps on what we can verify, not on month-to-month noise. Three findings are worth reading before you install anything: GoodShort now holds the best store scores of all 22 (4.9★ and 4.7★), ReelShort has fallen to 3.8★ on Google Play on billing and cancellation complaints while staying at 4.7★ on the App Store, and SAGABOX raised its weekly pass from $2.89 to $3.99. Sereal+ has now gone fifteen months without a store update. The comparison table below carries the full set of fresh ratings.

1. DramaBox — best short drama app overall

DramaBox tops our 2026 ranking because it does everything well. The DramaBox app has one of the largest short drama libraries anywhere — thousands of titles across billionaire romance, revenge, werewolf fantasy, mafia and family drama — with roughly 200 new releases added every month. You get free episodes every day and can unlock more by watching ads, so casual viewers can use DramaBox without ever paying.

For binge-watchers, DramaBox is also the value pick: subscriptions start at around $5.99 per week at the time of writing (with introductory offers often lower), which undercuts most rivals. Add smooth HD playback on Android, iOS and the web, and DramaBox is the app we recommend first to anyone new to short dramas. Visit DramaBox — official app → · Read our full DramaBox review

2. ReelShort — best original English-language dramas

ReelShort is the app that made short dramas a global phenomenon, and it is still the quality leader. Unlike apps that mostly license dubbed imports, ReelShort produces its own English-language originals with strong casts and Hollywood-style production — hits like its billionaire and werewolf romance series regularly top app-store charts. If you want the best-looking, best-acted short dramas, ReelShort is the place to start.

The ReelShort app gives you the first 5–10 episodes of a series free, then lets you continue with coins, ads or a VIP subscription. It's available on Android, iOS and the web.

One thing to know before you subscribe. ReelShort rates 4.7★ on the App Store from about 510,000 ratings, but only 3.8★ on Google Play from 1.95 million reviews — the largest gap between the two stores of any app we track. Reading the recent Play reviews, the recurring complaint is not the content but the billing: users say they subscribed through Google Play, then could find no cancel option inside the app and were pointed to the website instead. If you pay, note which channel charged you — Apple, Google or ReelShort directly — because that is where you have to cancel. The listing is published by NewLeaf Publishing, the entity formerly known to us as Crazy Maple Studio. Visit ReelShort — official app → · Read our full ReelShort review

3. ShortMax — fastest-growing catalog

ShortMax has exploded to more than 30 million monthly viewers, and it's easy to see why. The ShortMax app leans into the genres short drama fans binge hardest — revenge, secret identities, alpha romance — and refreshes its catalog constantly. Localization is a strong point too, with well-made subtitles and dubs across many languages.

ShortMax is generous with free content: daily free episodes, new-user coin bonuses and ad-supported unlocks mean you can watch a lot before spending anything. Visit ShortMax — official app → · Read our full ShortMax review

4. NetShort — the biggest catalog outside the top three

NetShort is the largest service we have added to the ranking since it launched: the Google Play listing shows 100M+ installs with a 4.7★ rating from 2.02 million reviews, and the App Store version sits at 4.7★ from about 226,000 ratings (US storefront, checked 18 October 2026). It is published by NETSTORY PTE. LTD. of Singapore, the overseas arm of Chongqing-based Maiya Media, and its site claims more than 45,000 short dramas. The catalog is mostly Chinese-produced series subtitled or dubbed into 17 languages — Hindi, Arabic, Turkish and Vietnamese included — with a growing slate of English-language originals.

You get free opening episodes, rewarded-ad unlocks and a daily check-in; after that it is coins (roughly 70–80 per episode) or a weekly VIP plan from $19.99, which is pricier than DramaBox. The recurring complaint in reviews is the weekly billing cycle being mistaken for monthly — read the plan screen carefully. Visit NetShort — official app → · Read our full NetShort review

5. GoodShort — best for romance

GoodShort is the romance specialist of our top ten. The GoodShort catalog is built around CEO and billionaire love stories, contract marriages, sweet campus romance and fun character dynamics, delivered in crisp 1–2 minute HD episodes with frequent updates. If your ideal evening is a swoony, feel-good binge, GoodShort was made for you.

Daily check-in rewards earn you bonus coins, so patient viewers can work through series for free, while coin packs and subscriptions unlock everything instantly. GoodShort also carries the best store scores in this entire ranking: 4.9★ on the App Store from about 534,000 ratings and 4.7★ on Google Play from 4.53 million reviews, on 50M+ installs, with the listing refreshed in October 2026. It works on Android, iOS and the web. Visit GoodShort — official app → · Read our full GoodShort review

6. KalosTV — best for international viewers

KalosTV stands out for language support. The Kalos TV app offers subtitles and dubbing in English, Spanish, French and a long list of other languages — including many that bigger apps ignore — which makes it the best choice for non-English speakers and multilingual households. The player is flexible too, letting you control the pace of the story.

Monetization is standard and transparent: coin packs for individual unlocks or a VIP subscription that opens the entire KalosTV catalog. Visit KalosTV — official app → · Read our full KalosTV review

7. FlickReels — most diverse catalog

FlickReels calls itself a "Short Drama Universe", and the name fits: it brings together Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Spanish and Thai productions in one app. That mix gives FlickReels a broader range of styles than most rivals — from werewolf thrillers to K-drama-flavored romance — with every episode under five minutes and new titles added daily.

Personalized recommendations quickly learn your taste, making FlickReels ideal for commutes and short breaks. Discover dramas on FlickReels → · Read our full FlickReels review

8. FlareFlow — ReelShort's sibling with English originals and a TV app

FlareFlow launched in April 2025 and belongs to COL Group, the Chinese-listed company that also owns a large stake in ReelShort — which explains the polished English-language originals shot in Los Angeles, New York, Canada and London. It passed 10M Google Play installs within a few months, holds 4.7★ on the App Store (about 11,000 ratings) and 4.2★ on Google Play (130,000 reviews), and is the only newcomer with a dedicated TV app (FlareFlow TV for Google TV). Titles such as Mothering My Husband's Bastard and She Means Justice are its calling cards.

Around 10 episodes per series are free, then coins or an "Unlimited viewing" plan from $19.99 a week; there are daily check-in coins and rewarded ads. Reviewers praise the production value and playback controls but complain about ad walls and cancellation friction outside the App Store. Visit FlareFlow — official app → · Read our full FlareFlow review

9. Playlet — solid free, ad-supported option

Playlet holds 4.4★ from more than 142,000 Google Play reviews and 4.6★ from about 47,000 App Store ratings, earned with emotionally charged urban dramas, revenge plots and werewolf sagas. The Playlet app's biggest practical advantage is its ad-unlock system: if you don't mind watching ads, you can keep unlocking episodes without paying.

Coin prices for instant unlocks are on the higher side, so Playlet suits viewers who take the free, ad-supported route. Visit Playlet — official app → · Read our full Playlet review

10. StardustTV — bold stories, lots of free titles

StardustTV mixes romance, fantasy, revenge and suspense in HD, and keeps a generous share of its catalog free to watch. The platform experiments with AI-assisted production, which lets its studios stage bigger scenes and more imaginative stories than typical short drama budgets allow.

StardustTV works on phones, tablets and in the browser, so you can pick up an episode anywhere. Visit StardustTV — official app → · Read our full StardustTV review

11. StarShort — for palace and female-lead drama fans

StarShort sits mid-table with a catalog focused on female-lead stories: palace intrigue, historical romance, women's power and family drama. New titles arrive weekly, and free preview episodes let you sample a series before committing coins to it.

StarShort's niche focus makes it a strong second app for fans of historical and empowerment stories. Preview dramas on StarShort → · Read our full StarShort review

12. MoboReels — widest genre spread

MoboReels covers more niches than almost any rival: beyond the usual billionaire romance and revenge, its catalog runs through mafia sagas, twin-swap stories, time travel, miracle doctors, fantasy and even martial-arts legends. The App Store audience rates it 4.5★ from about 41,000 ratings, but the much larger Google Play audience has pulled it down to 4.0★ from 716,000 reviews — the weakest Play score in our top half. New episodes land daily with personalized recommendations.

One practical touch stands out: adjustable playback speed from 0.75× to 2×, rare in this category. Note that the App Store lists the interface in English only, so treat multi-language support as unconfirmed. If your taste goes beyond romance, MoboReels is the app to sample. Visit MoboReels — official app → · Read our full MoboReels review

13. TopShort — best Asian drama lean

TopShort delivers mini-dramas mainly from Asia, and it is one of the few apps in our ranking whose interface ships in Japanese, Korean and Chinese as well as English. The catalog leans into sweet romance — hidden billionaires, accidental marriages — with 1-minute episodes and full series available at once, so there's no waiting for weekly updates.

If you specifically want Korean- and Japanese-flavored short dramas alongside the Chinese standards, TopShort is a natural pick. Visit TopShort — official app → · Read our full TopShort review

14. Sereal+ — Korean, Japanese and South-East Asian lean

Sereal+ is COL Group's older, more Asia-facing app: it launched in December 2023 and mixes Korean, Japanese, Indonesian and South Asian dramas with English originals such as Once Upon a Divorce and Dracula's Kiss. Google Play shows 10M+ installs, and the App Store rating is a solid 4.5★ from about 14,000 ratings, although the Google Play score is a weaker 3.3★ from about 43,000 reviews. There is a web player at sereal.com.

Expect about five free episodes per series, up to five ad unlocks a day, then coins (~50–60 per episode) or weekly VIP from $12.99. One caveat we flag loudly: neither store listing has been updated since July 2025 — fifteen months as of this update — and users report fewer new originals. Treat Sereal+ as a catalog that has stopped growing, and check the shelf before you subscribe. Visit Sereal+ — official app → · Read our full Sereal+ review

15. HoneyReels — sweet romance specialist

HoneyReels curates a clean, well-categorized library of sweet romance and costume dramas in sharp HD, with an interface users consistently praise as smooth and effortless. Episodes are tightly timed for coffee-break viewing, and frequent updates keep the front page fresh.

Its plans (weekly and monthly) come with daily check-in bonus coins; heavier viewers should compare plan prices against rivals before committing, as HoneyReels sits at the premium end. Visit HoneyReels — official app → · Read our full HoneyReels review

16. FreeReels — the most installed app here, and the only one with no paywall by default

FreeReels is the largest app in this ranking by a distance: 240 million installs on Google Play, 11 million of them in the last thirty days, and 4.73 stars from 1,975,521 ratings. It is the number one Entertainment app in Canada and sits in the overall top ten in four countries — unusual for a short drama app. The publisher is SKYWORK AI PTE.LTD., a Singapore company that also makes DramaWave and HotDrama; on iPhone the same app is published under a different name, DramaReels.

What makes it different is the business model. Playlet lets you unlock episodes by watching ads, and StardustTV keeps a share of its catalogue free; FreeReels goes further and has no paywall by default at all, running an advertisement between one-minute episodes instead of asking for coins. For a viewer who does not mind the ads, it is the cheapest way to watch short drama that currently exists. The caveat is that the listing promises “no subscriptions, no limits,” while reviewers from September and October 2026 describe a $11.99-a-month ad-free tier inside the app, episode allowances that run out after ten to twelve episodes, and a coin-redemption scheme that changed on 8 September and is gone in some regions. Both can be true at once; treat the promise as a direction of travel rather than a guarantee.

Its score of 8.1 is Listed (provisional): we assessed it from store data, the operator record and reviews at volume, but have not yet completed a paid hands-on cycle. Read our full FreeReels review

17. Footage — bold themes, 7-language interface

Footage closes the original 14 with a catalog that goes darker than most: alongside costume and modern-city romance you'll find comeback ("reverse assault") plots and end-of-times survival stories you won't see on romance-first apps. The interface is localized into seven languages, including Japanese, Korean, Thai, Indonesian and Dutch.

The first episodes of popular series are free, so you can try before paying — subscriptions are billed weekly or monthly. Visit Footage — official app → · Read our full Footage review

18. TouchShort — the cheapest weekly VIP of any app-store app here

TouchShort (listed as TouchShort-TV on the App Store) is a smaller Chinese-run app from Hong Kong Touch Culture Communication that serves novel-adapted dramas with English subtitles — CEO romance, werewolf and vampire fantasy, revenge and time travel. It is rated 4.6★ on the App Store (1,153 ratings) and 4.2★ on Google Play with 1M+ installs, and the interface is available in nine languages including Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese and Korean.

Its headline number is price: weekly VIP starts at $9.99, the lowest of any app-store app in this ranking — only SAGABOX, which is a website rather than an app, goes lower at $3.99 — with free trial episodes, daily check-in coins and ad bonuses on top. Reviews are mixed on reliability — freezing playback and cancellation problems come up — so treat it as a budget second app rather than your main one. Visit TouchShort — official app → · Read our full TouchShort review

19. ShortPeak — the only service that shows you every price up front

ShortPeak (shortpeak.tv) is a browser platform, not a store app: we searched the US and Philippine App Stores and found no listing, and the service’s own help page says it runs in a tab on phone, tablet or desktop. The catalogue is small and real — we counted 138 titles and 4,479 episodes from its sitemap, median 31 episodes a title, with pages updated every few days through the fortnight before we checked. Ten interface languages are declared.

What sets it apart is pricing. Open shortpeak.tv/vip logged out and the complete list is there: VIP at $15.99 weekly, $47.99 monthly or $149 yearly, and five coin packs from $4.79 for 300 to $44.99 for 5,400. Almost nobody else in this ranking will show you that before you hit a paywall. One practical consequence: a median series costs 1,400 coins, or $19.18 at the best coin price — so the $15.99 weekly pass is cheaper than buying one series and throws in the other 137.

Two things hold the score at 7.3. The recommendation badges mislead: “Popular” sits on the costliest coins per unit, “Best value” on a pack that is beaten by the unbadged one below it, and “Best deal” on the plan that works out at $2.28 a day against $0.41 for yearly. And no company is named anywhere — Terms, Privacy, Refund, DMCA and Contact all still open with “Draft. Company registration and contact details are not published yet”, a month after they were dated. Cards run through Stripe, which helps, but there is no store to refund you and no entity to name if something goes wrong. Visit ShortPeak — official site → · Read our full ShortPeak review

20. SAGABOX — AI-generated originals in your browser

SAGABOX is different from everything above it: there is no App Store or Google Play listing. It is a website, sagabox.tv, that streams AI-generated vertical short films — about 350 titles at the time of writing, mostly romance, mafia and werewolf stories — alongside AI comics, and it can be pinned to your home screen like an app. Because the content is machine-generated it looks and moves differently from the live-action dramas elsewhere on this list.

The economics are the cheapest we have seen: the first five episodes of most titles are free, further episodes cost 20 coins, and coin packs start at $2.69. VIP was raised in October 2026 to $3.99 a week, with $15.99 monthly and $47.99 yearly — that annual price is the cheapest subscription of any service in this ranking. Note that titles in the “Premium Picks · Coins Only” row give you episode one free rather than five. Two cautions: the catalog leans adult and has no age gate, unlike the store-listed apps that carry a formal 18+ band, and the operator still publishes no company details or terms, though checkout now names Stripe via OptiSite as the processor — pay with a card you can monitor. Visit SAGABOX — official site → · Read our full SAGABOX review

21. YourChannel — short dramas and web novels in one tab

YourChannel (yourchannel.ai) is the newest and smallest entry: a browser platform that puts short dramas, creator "channels" and web novels under one roof, so you can watch an episode and read a chapter in the same tab. The catalog is creator-driven — mafia romance, werewolf and alpha stories, BL series and AI-animated comic dramas from small studios — and it installs as a progressive web app rather than through the stores.

Opening episodes and chapters are free and further content is unlocked with points; we could not verify published prices or an operating company, and the site has no analyst coverage yet, which is why it sits at 20. Worth a look if you want dramas and novels together; not yet a replacement for the leaders. Visit YourChannel — official site → · Read our full YourChannel review

22. Veloria — avoid for now: ratings collapsed and coins are the most expensive here

Veloria sat 11th in our ranking until October 2026 on the strength of its curated, boutique catalog — costume dramas and modern "sweet pet" romance picked by hand rather than dumped in a feed. We are moving it to last place and cutting its score from 8.5 to 5.8, because the data no longer supports anything higher.

The App Store listing now shows 1.7★ from 21 ratings and Google Play 2.5★ from 95 reviews on roughly 100K+ installs — the worst numbers of any service we track. Neither store version has been updated since 16 July 2026 (iOS) and 13 August 2026 (Android). The complaint that repeats is pricing: reviewers describe an opening episode at 89 coins and every following episode at 560 coins, which works out to more than $100 to finish a single series. Veloria's cheapest in-app purchase is $4.99 — the highest entry price in this ranking, where most rivals start under $1 — and packs run to $499.99.

The catalog itself is not the problem; the economics are. If you want curated costume drama, our full Veloria review explains what we found, and DramaBox or GoodShort carry similar titles at normal coin prices. Check Veloria's current listing → · Read our full Veloria review

Ranking update — . We re-read all 18 App Store and Google Play listings on 18 October 2026 and checked the three browser platforms’ public price pages the same day. What changed:
  • Veloria falls from 11th (8.5) to 21st (5.8). 1.7★ from 21 App Store ratings and 2.5★ from 95 Google Play reviews; no update since 16 July 2026 on iOS; reviewers report 560 coins per episode and a cheapest in-app purchase of $4.99, the highest entry price here.
  • GoodShort is now the best-rated service in the ranking — 4.9★ on the App Store (534K ratings) and 4.7★ on Google Play (4.53M), listing refreshed in October 2026. Its 5th place and 9.2 score are unchanged, because our score weighs catalog and real cost alongside ratings.
  • ReelShort now shows 3.8★ on Google Play from 1.95M reviews, against 4.7★ on the App Store — the widest store gap we see. The recurring complaint is cancellation, not content. It keeps 2nd place: it led the category on downloads in September 2026 and still shares the revenue lead.
  • MoboReels slid to 4.0★ on Google Play (716K reviews) and Footage to 2.9★ (737). Sereal+ remains at 3.3★ with no store update in either store since July 2025.
  • Prices: SAGABOX raised its weekly pass from $2.89 to $3.99 ($15.99 monthly, $47.99 yearly — still the cheapest annual plan here). ShortPeak did not change any price and now also accepts Telegram Stars. TouchShort keeps the cheapest weekly VIP among app-store apps at $9.99.
  • Renamed since our last update: TopShort is now “TopShort – Novels & Drama”, FlareFlow is “FlareFlow: 1-Minute Dramas!”, TouchShort is “Touch Shorts”, and ReelShort’s publisher is listed as NewLeaf Publishing.

Frequently asked questions

What is a short drama app?

A short drama app streams vertical mini-series filmed for phones. Episodes run 1–2 minutes and end on cliffhangers, and a full series typically has 40–100 episodes. Popular examples include DramaBox, ReelShort and ShortMax.

Is DramaBox free?

DramaBox is free to download and gives you free daily episodes, plus the option to unlock more by watching ads. Full series can be unlocked with coins or a subscription, which starts at around $5.99 per week.

How many free episodes does ReelShort give?

ReelShort typically lets you watch the first 5–10 episodes of a series for free. After that you unlock episodes with coins, ads or a VIP subscription.

Which short drama app is the best in 2026?

In our 2026 testing DramaBox scored highest overall (9.8/10) thanks to its huge library and subscription value, followed by ReelShort (9.6) for original English-language productions and ShortMax (9.4) for its fast-growing free catalog.

How do coins work in short drama apps?

Most short drama apps sell virtual coins that you spend to unlock individual episodes. Apps also give free coins through daily check-ins, ads and new-user bonuses. If you watch a lot, a weekly or annual subscription is usually cheaper than buying coins per episode.

Can I watch short dramas on my computer?

Yes. Most major short drama apps — including DramaBox, ReelShort, GoodShort and StardustTV — also offer web versions, so you can watch in a browser on your computer as well as on Android and iOS.

Which short drama app is best for romance?

GoodShort leans most heavily into romance — CEO, billionaire and sweet love stories — while ReelShort produces the best-known original romance hits and DramaBox has the largest overall romance catalog.

Is the Top Drama app real, and where do I download it?

TopDrama is a real Android app on Google Play with more than 5 million downloads, published by a company Google Play names as Beijing Tianji Haohai Technology Co., Ltd. It is not in our ranking because we have not done the research a ranking row requires, and its listing shows no star rating and no reviews at all, which would make even a provisional score thin. Our Top Drama app review explains what the listing does and does not say, including how to download it and what it costs.

Which short drama app has the best store ratings?

GoodShort, as of 18 October 2026. It holds 4.9★ on the App Store from about 534,000 ratings and 4.7★ on Google Play from 4.53 million reviews. NetShort is close behind at 4.7★ on both stores, and DramaBox rates 4.8★ on the App Store and 4.6★ on Google Play across the largest review base in the category, 5.61 million.

Why is ReelShort rated 3.8 on Google Play but 4.7 on the App Store?

The gap comes from billing complaints rather than the shows. Reading the recent Google Play reviews, the pattern is that users subscribed through Google Play, found no cancel option inside the app, and were directed to ReelShort's website instead. App Store subscriptions are cancelled in Apple's own Subscriptions screen, which removes most of that friction. If you subscribe, check whether Apple, Google or ReelShort charged you, because that is where the cancellation lives.

What is the most a short drama app can charge for one purchase?

Google Play publishes each app's in-app purchase range. The highest ceilings in our ranking are Veloria at $499.99 and KalosTV at $399.99 per item, with several apps topping out at $299.99. The lowest ceilings belong to TouchShort at $104.99 and FreeReels at $119.99. The cheapest entry prices are a few cents to a dollar for most apps, while Veloria's smallest purchase is $4.99.

Which short drama service has the cheapest yearly subscription?

SAGABOX, at $47.99 a year on its website. ShortPeak charges $149 a year. Among store apps, annual plans are rarely advertised up front and most services push weekly billing instead: TouchShort starts at $9.99 a week, DramaBox at around $5.99, and NetShort and FlareFlow at $19.99.

Are short drama apps safe to use?

The apps in our ranking are distributed through the official Apple App Store and Google Play and are safe to install. As with any streaming app, check the subscription price and cancellation terms before paying, since billing is handled by the app provider.

How we rank short drama apps

With dozens of apps competing for your attention (and your wallet), picking the right one matters. Our team at ShortDramaTop downloads, tests and compares every major short drama app, evaluating each across dozens of criteria so you don't have to.

Content library and originals

The best apps offer thousands of titles across every trending genre — billionaire romance, revenge, werewolf fantasy, palace intrigue, family drama — and refresh their catalogs with hundreds of new releases every month. We give extra weight to platforms producing original, high-quality content in English rather than relying only on dubbed imports.

Free episodes and real cost

Every app on this list is free to download, but they differ hugely in how much you can watch without paying. We measure how many free episodes you get per series, whether you can unlock content by watching ads or claiming daily rewards, and what a subscription or coin pack really costs if you decide to binge a full series.

App experience and languages

Smooth playback, HD video, working subtitles and honest billing all factor into our scores. We also check language support — the top apps now offer subtitles and dubbing in English, Spanish, French and many more languages — and whether you can watch on the web as well as on your phone.
